A Note From Doug Trudeau, ESBA President

Hello ESBA,

This last year was challenging for most businesses. Maintaining employees, inventories, and customers are just some of the challenges we faced and continue to face in the foreseeable future.

Vanessa Behan and Avista’s Catalyst building prior to COVID-19, hopefully we can reschedule this in 2021.

We are confident that we can get back to our normal ESBA meetings by summer. The board continued to work on transportation priorities, zoning requests, and relationship building with our new representatives at the city.

There was also some good news. We saw continued investment inside our district with the start of construction of a large apartment building in the South University District (UD), continued renovation of buildings in the Sprague Union area, and the start of the Hive (Public Library) to the East.

Several buildings were completed, including Vanessa Behan Nursery and the Avista Catalyst building. We had planned to tour Vanessa Behan and Avista’s Catalyst building prior to COVID-19, hopefully we can reschedule this in 2021.

We realize the number one concern in our area is the homeless problem. This was amplified last year with a large part of our city services shut down. We hope these services will start to reopen in 2021. We are looking into new approaches for 2021 because of the policy changes during COVID-19.

Your continued support is critical as we are stronger as a group than individually.
