Building a Brighter 2021

2020 might feel like a nightmare, but 2021 looks to deliver on the dream that the University District (UD) would be a top place to live, learn, work, and play. For a long time, in the South UD, that first hope has been elusive. However, as you read this, Boxcar’s iconic, seven story development with 130 units near the UD Gateway Bridge’s south landing is under construction. This and other small housing developments on Sherman will welcome long-term residents who add the sense of vibrancy and safety that has sometimes felt missing.

The UD board and staff are committed to helping residents, as well as business and property owners, tackle two more barriers: parking and maintaining a clean, safe, and attractive business district. More efficient and fair management of on street parking and exploratory work to build an off street parking structure are on track to hit some significant milestones in 2021. Additionally, the UD Public Development Authority is making its largest ever investment ($4 Million) in rebuilding the last part of Sprague Ave and is responding to ESBA and other property owners’ requests to keep the neighborhood safe and looking good with a Business Improvement District (BID).

For more information about these topics, how we have helped more than a dozen property owners assess and plan how to address soil contamination, and/or how we can partner with you to make the UD the place where business and education grow together, please email info@SpokaneUDistrict.org or call 509-255-8038.
